MAGNOLIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS MAGNOLIA BOARD OF EDUCATION BOARD MEETING MINUTES A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Magnolia School District Number 14 was held in the board room of the Administration Building February 11, 2008. Board members present were Mr. Mike Waters, president; Dr. Mark Bryan, vice-president; Mr. William Watson, secretary; Mr. Truman Young, and Dr. Randy Hayes. The following business was transacted: · The Board approved the January 14, 2008, Regular Board Meeting Minutes and January 30, 2008, Special Board Meeting Minutes. · Peggy Comer, business manager, reviewed the January 2008 Financial Report. · Scott Nipper, testing coordinator, reviewed the Magnolia School District's 2006-2007 School Report Card. The Arkansas Department of Education will soon release a final version to all parents of Arkansas Public Schools students. · The Board approved a Summer Elementary Enrichment Program which will be offered to all students who will enter third, fourth or fifth grade the 2008-2009 academic year. Kim Wryick, curriculum coordinator, presented a power point overview of the Summer Enrichment Program, which will provide enriching and challenging learning experiences relating to specific topics in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies and fine arts. · The Board approved a Summer Elementary Literacy Remediation Program which will be offered to qualifying students who will enter first or second grade the 2008-2009 academic year. · The Board approved Course Offerings, including Prerequisite and Co-Requisite Courses, for 2008-2009 for Grades 7-12, as submitted by Roger Loper, Magnolia High School Principal, and Chris Hurley, Magnolia Junior High School Principal. · The Board approved offering the Summer 2008 Driver Education Program, as presented by Roger Loper, Magnolia High School Principal, and increasing the tuition from $125 to $135 · Mr. Roger Loper requested that the following Credit Recovery courses, which are State funded, be allowed to be offered this semester: English IV, English II, American History, and Algebra. · The Board approved, as presented by Scott Nipper, an overview of the College Preparatory Enrichment Program (CPEP) for Summer 2008. CPEP is a four week program designed to help high school juniors and seniors increase ACT scores. Students attend classes from 8 a.m. to 12:00 noon Monday through Friday. At the end of the program, students are given the ACT exam free of charge. The CPEP program has shown to be very successful in helping students increase their ACT scores. Generally, the scores received by the students at the conclusion of the CPEP program is the highest score they earn. · The Board voted to move forward with the construction of a Multi-purpose Facility at Magnolia High School, and authorized T.G. Connelly with CADM Architectural Services to proceed with the drawings. · The Board accepted a classified resignation.
