School Board Minutes
January 2008

A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Magnolia School District Number 14 was held in the Board Room of the Administration Building January 14, 2008. Board members present were Mr. Mike Waters, President; Dr. Mark Bryan, Vice-president; Mr. William Watson, Secretary; Mr. Truman Young and Dr. Randy Hayes. Dr. John H. Moore, Superintendent, was present. The following business was transacted:

  • The Board approved the December 10, 2007, Regular Board Meeting Minutes and the December 18, 2007, Special Board Meeting Minutes.
     
  • Peggy Comer, business manager, reviewed the December 2007 Financial Report.
     
  • The Board accepted a bid in the amount of $75,080 from Hoffman-Henry Insurance Corporation, for Property Insurance on Property/Contents, as reviewed by Peggy Comer.

  • The Board approved tentative plans, as reviewed by Blake Dunn, CADM Architecture, Inc., for the Softball Field Complex to be constructed on the Magnolia High School campus.  Mr. Dunn distributed copies of plans developed thus far, including location of softball field, parking lot and buildings. A construction schedule was also received by the Board.
     
  • The Board approved changes to Board Policies, as recommended by the Arkansas School Boards Association, and presented by Scott Nipper.
  • A Statement of Financial Interest form, which is required to be filed annually in the County Clerk's office by January 31 was received by the Board in their board meeting information packet.
     
  • The Board approved a Change in Assignment for a certified employee, which changes the current Math Coach position from three days per week to five days per week.
     
  • Dr. Moore gave the Superintendent's Report.
     
  • The Board met in executive session for evaluation of the Superintendent and for consideration of the Superintendent's Contract Renewal. Upon returning to regular session, the Board voted unanimously to extend Dr. Moore's contract one year for a three year contract, effective July 1, 2008, with a 6 percent increase in salary.
