Three Steps to Healthy School Meals Program

The Magnolia Public School Child Nutrition Program uses the Three Steps to Healthy School Meals program provided
by the Arkansas Department of Education Child Nutrition Unit for meal planning.

This program consist of a series of pre-planned menus which are color coded by fat and nutrition content
to help in offering students a variety of balanced, healthy meals. The use of Cycle Menus is encouraged to help with
planning and purchasing. Magnolia Schools currently uses an eight week menu cycle. Substitutions of individual
items may be chosen from select lists of equal nutritional value to introduce a greater variety of foods, preferred choices,
and seasonal items.

Grades Pre-K - 6 are offered one meal selection daily. Grades 7 - 12 are offered two meal selections daily.

Individual special substitutions may be made for students with a completed "Certification of Disability for Special Dietary
Needs" form signed by a licensed physician. A completed form must include substitutions for any dietary omission.

Questions and comments should be directed to Susan Gosdin, Magnolia Child Nutrition Director, at 234-2677.
