“More than just a GED”

All classes are free for anyone age 18 or older not enrolled in public school. 

Students sixteen and seventeen years old must meet the requirements of state laws, their local school district's regulations, and local adult education criteria before being eligible to enroll in the GED program.

      Programs offered by adult education

  • GED classes and testing

  • Individualized reading instruction

  • Refresher classes in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science

  • Prep classes for ACT, SAT, ASVAB, Commercial Driver's License test (written part), driver's test (written part)

  • Tutoring for Math Fundamentals, Intermediate Algebra, and Fundamentals of Writing

  •  English as a Second Language (ESL)

  •  Interest, Aptitude, and Values assessments

  •  Pre-employment/work maturity skills classes

  •  Computer basics

  •  Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economytm (WAGE) - teaches skills needed to be competitive in the job market.

  •  Workplace classes

  •   Services for special needs

      Each student is given an evaluation that assesses basic reading, writing, and math  skills and identifies specific skills that need reviewing. An individualized lesson plan is made for each student. Students may set their schedule and work at their own pace or attend classes with whole group instruction.

  • Family Literacy - In collaboration with the Literacy Council, MAEC offer family classes one night a week. During these classes, parents do learning activities with their children then discuss parenting topics while their children attend age- appropriate classes taught by certified teachers. Parents, teachers of the children, and parent group facilitators seek resources and ideas that enable parents to help their children succeed in school. During the summer, a week of fun-filled workshops are held for families.

 

  • Tutoring of Teens - On Monday and Thursday nights the Literacy Council provides tutoring for teens that need help with basic reading, writing, and math skills

 

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday --- 8:00 am to 8 pm

Wednesday and Friday ---  8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Saturday --- 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
