Magnolia/Columbia County Adult Education
 Workplace Classes

Classes can be held on site as long as 5 people attend regularly or industries may send students to the center for classes. The schedule can be made according to the needs of the business/industry. Often classes are scheduled two hours a day, two days a week.

All classes are "pre-paid”- Your state and federal taxes at work. However, students must attend 12 hours of class before they are considered “enrolled”.

Adult Education can give the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) to each employee to help determine the training needs of your business. This will give a grade level for reading, math, and language and identify specific areas of strength and weakness for each individual tested. Individual test results are confidential unless the employee signs a release for the scores. Without revealing individual test scores, adult education can design a composite report of all scores and go over the scores individually with each employee.

Classes taught may be individualized, specific subjects, or designed for specific positions.

Individualized instruction

Students working on GED, refresher classes, or WAGE will be tested with the Test of Adult Education (TABE) to determine areas that need to be reviewed. An individualized lesson plan will be made for each student and each student will then work at his or her own pace.

Specific Subjects

If the plant/business has a particular area of concern, a class can be designed for their needs. For example: basic computers, technical math, technical writing, technical reading, office basics made easy, etc.

Designed for specific position

If there is an area in the plant/business that is experiencing difficulties, such as too much down time or too much scrap, MAEC can conduct a Literacy Task Analysis (LTA). During an LTA, a good worker is observed to see what he does and determine what literacy skills he needs to do his job.  A readability study is done on any materials that worker has to read and comprehend to do his job well.
