Magnolia Public Schools

                      Partners in Education

 Purpose of PIE
The purpose of Partners in Education is to promote communication and cooperation between parents and citizens with the administration and faculty of the Magnolia School District.

Objectives of PIE
The primary objective of PIE is to volunteer time in the schools and to show appreciation to the staff members.  At this time, the only method of revenue is membership dues and donations.

Membership
Membership in PIE is open to all residents of the Magnolia School district.  Dues are $5.00. Dues can be paid at any one of the school offices at any time.  In lieu of a fund raiser, PIE is seeking to generate revenue for operating expenses by asking for donations of $10.00 or any amount desired in addition to the $5.00 membership fee.

History and Forward to the Easy as PIE Cookbook by Chris and Margo Weiser

One evening a group of friends were sitting around the dinner table talking about an almost perfect school atmosphere.  We, as parents of school aged students, felt like our role in our children's education could not be complete without parents working with the schools.  Magnolia had been without a parent/teacher organization for many years!  At that moment, we felt like it was a dream too big for such a small group to undertake.  However, within the next month, Partners in Education, PIE was no longer a dream but a working reality; bylaws had been written, officers elected and the schools were wondering what to do with us.

Our first project was a citywide garage sale, held at the High School Stadium.  We needed to make money but also wanted to include as many people as possible.  That fund-raiser helped pay for the first school project, a new playground at West Side.  Other projects followed resulting in the funds and donations to build playgrounds at East Side and Central and a pavilion at the Jr. High.  From there the list goes on and on.  None of this could have been accomplished without the generous time, support, and donations from our local industries, businesses and individuals.

In addition to the monetary contributions, PIE volunteers have donated thousands of man-hours, from crossing guards, tutors, Cubby Hole Workers, judges, teachers aids, typists, and even cooks and bottle washers.

The knowledge that we have assisted in the well-being and future of our children is a reward in itself.  An even greater reward is the fulfillment of knowing that we are welcome in our schools and the deep appreciation shown to us by the students, their teachers and the administration.

Nothing could have been accomplished without the willingness to work together, for that is what we are - PARTNERS IN EDUCATION.

From the President

PIE has done a variety of services throughout the years since its beginning.  Many volunteers have laughed and cried together over the years as they grew to know each other better through bubbling tests, playground duty, painting playground equipment and many other activities.  At this point in time, PIE is considered a volunteer organization rather than a fundraising organization.  The board meets twice a year and we keep in touch on the phone and as we see each other at the schools.  There are no general meetings, but if you would like to be involved in any way call the coordinator at your child's school.  We feel that giving our time is our most valuable asset.
