Welcome
to West Side School -
Magnolia's Kindergarten. The first year of your child's
public education is filled with new experiences and lots of
learning. The staff at West Side is dedicated to providing
opportunities for the maximum growth and development of each child.
Our literacy program, Early Literacy Learning in
Arkansas (ELLA) has shown a significant difference in the reading
skills of our children. ELLA has opened
many doors to the understanding of the alphabet, its sounds and the
written words that come from it. West Side
students participate in a literacy lab, which gives all
children the opportunity to work in small groups for twenty-five
minute sessions four times per week. With it's
emphasis on print, the ELLA program has produced many readers at
West Side School. Writing and the ability
to express oneself is strongly
emphasized with the ELLA program.
The mathematics curriculum
that is used at West Side is based on
Investigations in Number,
Data and Space.
This program involves students in hands on activities dealing with
math concepts. The basis of math such as patterning, arranging and
seeing attributes within objects are taught. The understanding of
counting and grouping is based on objects that the child sees and is
exposed to every day in the classroom.
Children use higher-order thinking skills
to predict, explain and question in many of the
mathematics activities.
All classrooms are equipped with computers.
Children are able to explore on the
computer and reinforce math and literacy skills from a number of
academic programs that are available in
each classroom.
You are invited to visit West
Side School, where you will witness enthusiastic and dedicated
teachers eager to provide the best education for every child.
