LARRY DUNN RECOGNIZED WITH STATE CHORAL DIRECTOR AWARD Larry Dunn, Magnolia High School Choral Director, was awarded the 2022 Arkansas Distinguished Director award at the Arkansas All-State Conference, held in Hot Springs on Saturday, February 19. Dunn was one of twelve individuals nominated for the award. To be nominated for the award, nominees must be active choral directors, with a minimum of five years’ experience in a junior high/ middle school or senior high school in Arkansas. They must be active members of ArkCDA, and must participate in events sponsored by the ArkCDA. Directors must have received a composite Division I rating in sight-reading and concert at region CPA in at least three of the past five years and must be directors whose choral programs clearly demonstrate a high level of activity, student interest, and community involvement.

Magnolia High School Head Boys Basketball coach, Ben Lindsey, was recently recognized as the 4A-8 Conference Coach of the Year. Lindsey is in his third year as the Panther head coach and has won the award all three years. His three-year record is 73-1! Congratulations Coach!

Boys and Girls Club Book Donation Drive
BAKER SIGNS WITH SAU FOOTBALL Magnolia High School senior, Jay Todd Baker, recently signed a letter of intent to play football for the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. Jay Todd finished an outstanding career as a punter/kicker for the Magnolia Panther football team. While playing for the Panthers, Baker was a two-time All-Conference and All-State selection. He was named the 2021 5A South Outstanding Punter/Kicker and selected to play in the 2022 FCA Arkansas vs Texas All-Star Game. During his high school career, Baker averaged a remarkable 41.3 yards per punt and had an 89% conversion rate for his field goals and extra points. He also scored 157 points for MHS during his career. Jay Todd is the son of Carey Baker and the late Jamie Baker.

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR WEEK IN ARKANSAS Governor Asa Hutchinson has proclaimed the week of February 7-11, 2022 as National School Counselor Week in Arkansas to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within the U.S. school system and how students are different as a result of what they do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students meet their college and career aspirations. The Magnolia School District recognizes the contributions of nine school counselors employed by the District. Each day these counselors make significant contributions to lives of our children. The District greatly appreciates the remarkable work these counselors do to provide a positive influence on the future of all students. Magnolia School District counselors recognized during National School Counselor Week
Central Elementary Has Heart for Arkansas Children’s Hospital! Students at Central Elementary School are collecting specific travel-size toiletry items to be used to make up “family bags” that Children’s Hospital gives to parents who have children staying in the hospital. Students will be collecting these items February 7- 28, 2022. Once the items have been sorted and counted, they will be delivered to Children’s Hospital. Anyone interested in making a donation may drop off items at the school office at 456 East North Street during regular school hours. Please choose your items from the list below. The following list includes very specific items that are being accepted. All products should be new and unopened. Travel size bottles are required for individual use. • Shampoo • Conditioner • Deodorant • Toothpaste • Toothbrush

Arkansas Boys and Girls State Taking Applications Arkansas Boys and Girls State programs are returning to in-person formats for 2022! Boys State will be held at the University of Central Arkansas May 29-June 3. Girls State will be held at Harding University during the same time period. Any junior who is interested in applying should see Mrs. Callicott before February 4.
